Yeshiva Girls All-Star Game

On April 21st 2013, over 100 of the most talented female yeshiva basketball players came to Ma’ayanot  High School for the MVP Basketball Camp All-Star Games. The festivities showcased local talent in the Junior High, JV and Varsity divisions.

The junior high game had the first overtime in the near decade years that the MVP Basketball Camp has been sponsoring the event. When the final buzzer sounded, everyone walked away a winner.

The JV game was won by a sizable margin by the west squad (Hillel, Kushner, Ma’aynot, Frisch, and SAR). The west MVP was Ronit Langer, Frisch student and Teaneck native. The real drama came in the 3-point shootout: Leah Shulman, SAR and Englewood native, sank eight 3s in one minute with her eighth shot coming with just seconds to spare.

In the Varsity game, once again the west (Frisch, Ramaz Bruriah SAR, Kushner, Heschel and Ma’aynot) flexed their muscles and won convincingly. The team MVP was Ramaz senior Nina Leibowitz. The varsity 3-point shootout champ was SAR’s Cora Weiner.

The league thanks the MVP Basketball Camp for sponsoring this event. Directed by Stephanie Amos, a long-time high school coach and college basketball player, the camp is an intense program where from dawn to dusk the girls play a full day of basketball. There are league style games, 3-3 tournaments, hot shot competitions, foul shooting, 3-point shooting competitions and more. MVP staff is comprised of experienced former college players as well as Yeshiva League coaches.

In addition to the campers spending a lot of time on the court, each day the girls have different clinics and practices. It’s amazing how much basketball the directors cram into such a minimal time. Participants will come home having played a full season of basketball in less than a week, gaining new skills, reinforcing basketball fundamentals, and making lasting friendships.
