Yeshiva University and Young Israel of Fort Lee Present Summer Learning Series

Young Israel of Fort Lee (YIFL), in collaboration with YU’s Center for the Jewish Future (CJF), will present two lectures by Dr. Jeffrey Gurock, Libby M. Klaperman Professor of Jewish History at YU, on the theme of “American Judaism in the 20th Century.” The lectures are on Wednesday, July 13, and Wednesday, July 20. Each lecture begins at 7 p.m. and is held at Young Israel of Fort Lee, 1610 Parker Avenue, Fort Lee, New Jersey.

On July 13, in “The Yeshiva Presidential Search, 1915 Style,” Dr. Gurock will discuss how Rabbi Bernard Revel came to be the university’s first president. (This will be followed by a dessert reception.)

On July 20, Dr. Gurock will explore “American Orthodoxy’s Era of Non-Observance.”

Rabbi Zev Goldberg, rabbi at YIFL, said, “We are very excited to host Dr. Gurock as our summer series lecturer. Dr. Gurock has an outstanding reputation as a leading scholar in American Jewish history. Our community is particularly pleased to offer this course in conjunction with Yeshiva University, an institution very dear to many of us in the congregation.”

“YU and CJF are proud to partner with the Young Israel of Fort Lee and Rabbi Goldberg in bringing the scholarship and inspiration of Yeshiva University to the Fort Lee community,” said Rabbi Yaakov Glasser, David Mitzner Dean at CJF. “Dr. Gurock’s lectures feature his signature passion and expertise in the field of American Jewish history. We invite those in the surrounding northern New Jersey communities to take advantage of this wonderful educational opportunity within the warm and welcoming Young Israel of Fort Lee.”

The Summer Learning Series is sponsored by Jed Katz in honor of the Fort Lee community and program supporters David and Etty Berezin.
