(Courtesy of yumacs.com) Junior Joseph Goffstein, of the Yeshiva University baseball team, has been selected to participate in the 2018 NCAA Career in Sports Forum. Goffstein is the first Yeshiva University student ever selected to participate in this program, which will be held from May 31-June 3 at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Career in Sports Forum is an annual educational forum hosted by the NCAA that brings together 200 student-athletes to learn and explore potential careers in sports, with the main focus being on college athletics. This unique, four-day forum is designed to assist student-athletes in charting their career paths, as well as provide an opportunity to network and learn from current athletics professionals.
“I’d like to thank my family, my teammates, my coach Marty Craft, coach Jeremy Schwartz and the Yeshiva University athletics department for making be a better player and teammate both on and off the field and always supporting me through my endeavors,” Goffstein said. “I believe this conference will be able to educate me on having a long term successful career in the sports industry and I am excited about the amazing networking opportunities at this forum.”
Majoring in “Business Intelligence and Marketing Analytics,” Goffstein currently serves as the president of the YU Sports Business Club. The second-year right fielder is also a member of the Yeshiva University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
“Joey has become an integral part of the baseball team,” Yeshiva University Director of Athletics Joe Bednarsh said. “His energy and enthusiasm for team operations will serve as a wonderful platform for his future success in athletics administration.”
Goffstein spent five seasons as a clubhouse manager in minor league baseball (2011-2015), including two years with the Brooklyn Cyclones (2014-15), a minor league affiliate of the New York Mets. He spent the previous two years as a batboy with the Newark Bears, where he was mentored by Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Tim Raines.
The Teaneck resident worked for Israel’s national team as an equipment manager during the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
Goffstein will serve as a merchandising intern for Fanatics, in Jacksonvile, FL this coming summer.
“It is a true honor to be able to represent the Yeshiva University athletics program, and the greater Jewish community, out of 200 total student-athletes at this nationally recognized event,” Goffstein said. “I hope this can inspire many future YU student-athletes to participate at the Career in Sports Forum in the future.”
