The fourth grade students at Yeshivat He’Atid have been learning about the original inhabitants of New Jersey, the Lenni Lenape Natives. Each student researched a different aspect of Lenni Lenape life: hunting/fishing, shelter, clothing and farming/gathering. After gathering information from online and text sources, the students used the Writing Workshop model to write research essays detailing the information they found. Afterwards, they worked together to create museum-style artifacts depicting their topic. While using modern materials like cardboard and clay, they mimicked the original item and the original construction wherever possible. It was a fantastic exhibit to share with the school.
