Yeshivat He’atid Sixth Graders Trace the History of Torah

In Chumash Class, Yeshivat He’Atid’s sixth-grade students traced the passing down of the Torah from Hashem to today’s generation. Their teacher, Rabbi Goldman, posed an interesting question to the students. How do we know that the Torah that Hashem gave to Moshe at Har Sinai is the same Torah that we learn today? Through inquiry, research and collaboration, the students began to investigate the Torah’s history. They researched the history of who taught the Torah to whom from HaShem all the way down to our current generation. The students learned that the Torah we have today was passed down through almost 137 people who taught and learned the Torah from each other. The children collaborated on this activity, each profiling two people who played a role in the transaction of Torah learning. The students gathered information about the people they profiled and created a slideshow presentation for the class by putting their profiles together into one slideshow which highlighted each generation that learned Torah from Har Sinai all the way up to the students in their class! The students wanted a unique way to represent this chain of Torah. They each wrote the names and dates for the people they profiled onto a chain link and, in chronological order, linked the passing down of Torah from Hashem to our generation today. This link was hung in the hallway and is a beautiful representation of the value of the Torah as truth, tradition and the knowledge that the Torah we have today is the same Torah Hashem gave to Moshe at Har Sinai.
