This year Thanksgiving falls on the date of 11/23 which is also Fibonacci Day. The Italian mathematician Fibonacci is credited with finding the famous pattern of when you add the two previous numbers, the sum is the next number in the sequence. When this pattern is drawn on graph paper you can also see how the golden spiral is created. Students in Mrs. Wasserman’s math class studied how artists use the concept of the golden spiral to make especially pleasing visual artwork. Students then created their own art in the style of the artist Modrian using the Fibonacci sequence.
