Passaic/Clifton’s Yiddle League baseball had its regular season opening day last weekend, which came on the heels of the prior spring training games. With the sun finally shining after almost a week of consistent rain, all 16 games took place on Sunday afternoon and evening. With hundreds of participants, ranging in age from three years old until 14 years old, Yiddle League continued the tradition of Boruch Spivack and Hal Rudin; their emphasis is on having a good time and playing respectfully, not on winning.
The younger boys played at The Learning Center (“the old Y”); the third graders played at the diamond at Benson; and most fourth and fifth graders and all sixth through eighth graders played at the diamonds at Third Ward near the Passaic train station. The games were competitive for the most part, with some dominant pitching performances in the older divisions.
