YU Sued Over Alleged Cover-Up

A female Yeshiva University student has filed a complaint in U.S. District Court (Southern District of New York) against YU and others, alleging that a fellow student, a member of the YU basketball team, raped her in his Washington Heights apartment in January 2021. The complaint alleges that the individuals named in the complaint conspired to cover up the rape and exonerate the accused rapist.

The suit alleged a deficient response to the student’s rape complaint. The student also alleged that YU is guilty of a pattern of cover-ups over many decades, potentially affecting a large number of female students.

The student further alleges that the cover-up of her rape by YU was motivated in large part by YU’s desire not to negatively impact its fundraising campaign. She is not seeking a specific amount in damages.

Neither the student nor the alleged perpetrator are named in the lawsuit. The student’s attorney has pledged confidentiality for anyone who provides information for this lawsuit.
