On Monday, April 1, community members will be privileged to hear firsthand accounts from ZAKA Volunteer Deputy Commander Simcha Greineman at Cong. Bnai Yeshurun in Teaneck.
ZAKA, a nonprofit volunteer organization in Israel, specializes in search and rescue operations, handling casualties and disaster victims with a motto of “saving those who can be saved, and honoring what remains.” ZAKA’s unwavering commitment to providing dignified burials, responding to international disasters and preparing for the unknown future showcases their essential role in times of crisis.
Since Oct. 7, ZAKA volunteers have braved horrific scenes of bloodshed in which they assisted in bringing hundreds of victims to an honorable burial by collecting and identifying all body parts and human remains, and by providing answers to families desperately seeking news of their loved ones. ZAKA’s volunteers work tirelessly, sacrificing their mental state and often their livelihood and income as they volunteer, dedicating themselves to these selfless acts of service.
While most of the community may not be able to perform this vital work, it is essential to come together to show unwavering support and express gratitude to these dedicated volunteers. Their acts of chesed shel emet on behalf of Klal Yisrael deserve everyone’s support and appreciation.
