Rabbi B, a renowned children’s entertainer, musician and educator, is making his way to Teaneck for a special pre-Chanukah event hosted by Bergen B’Yachad and the Jewish Center of Teaneck’s Youth Department. This event will be made even more special through a partnership with 14 schools and shuls from across Bergen County, truly embodying the spirit of unity and connection that Chanukah represents.
This year’s event, scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 22 at 3 p.m. at the Jewish Center of Teaneck, is part of Bergen B’Yachad’s ongoing mission to unite the Jewish community of Bergen County and beyond. With the goal of bringing families together, the event is open to all and aims to build bridges across the different streams of Jewish life.
Known for his unique talent in engaging children and families through creativity, music and meaningful lessons, Rabbi B’s visit is set to unite the community and celebrate the spirit of Chanukah with joy and connection.
Born and raised in Toronto, Rabbi B, also known as Yossi Berktin, grew up in a secular environment. Reflecting on his childhood, Rabbi B shared, “I truly feel that my upbringing was the best, and ultimately, I see that Hashem must have felt that way too.” While he grew up surrounded by rock music, cartoons and Friday night television, Rabbi B has since elevated those elements into tools for spreading positivity, Jewish values and connection to Hashem. From his guitar to his warm storytelling style, Rabbi B creates a space where Jewish children can feel engaged and inspired.
Rabbi B’s performances are packed with songs, games and stories designed to not only entertain but also educate and inspire. His work teaches Jewish values in a way that resonates with children and adults alike, instilling pride, joy and connection in the Jewish experience.
Chanukah carries an essential message of unity that resonates deeply with this mission. The menorah, central to the holiday’s celebration, symbolizes Jewish unity in a profound way. Each Jewish soul is unique, reflecting a distinct combination of God’s attributes. The menorah’s branches represent these differences, while its creation from a single slab of gold reminds us of our shared essence. We may express ourselves differently, but at our core we are one entity — a single, unified menorah.
This Chanukah event brings that vision to life, reminding us that while we may have different backgrounds, expressions of faith and traditions, we are all part of one Jewish people. Rabbi B’s show offers an opportunity for families to come together in that shared light, celebrating both our individuality and unity.
