Allowing Population Transfer Will Make Gaza Great Again

Watching President Trump at the White House with Prime Minister Netanyahu as he introduced his plans for Gaza was a truly historic moment that was long overdue. In President Trump we finally have a world leader with the courage to propose the only logical solution to this ongoing mess.

Population transfer is the only answer that can bring about a lasting peace. It may take a generation, or two, but it will eventually bring peace to the region.

Population transfers or exchanges are nothing new. It has been going on since the beginning of time. Most recently you had Chechen refugees resettled in the Ottoman Empire. When Greece gained independence from the Ottoman Empire you had a complete population exchange between Greek Orthodox Christians and Muslim Turks. When India was partitioned into India and Pakistan you had the largest population exchange in history involving 20 million people. Over 15 million people were resettled after World War II. You had Soviet deportations. The displacement of nearly a quarter of a million people when Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974. Exchanges between Bulgaria and Romania in 1940, or Albanians displaced during the Kosovo war in 1999. When Israel was created it absorbed nearly a million Jews who were expelled from Arab countries.

Only when it comes to the Jewish State has the global community deemed a population transfer a crime against humanity. Of course France has already objected to the President’s plan, calling any displacement of Palestinian people from their land a violation of international law.

For decades the Palestinian Arabs were used as pawns by neighboring Arabs in their ongoing war with Israel. Unable to defeat Israel these Arab countries have moved on, leaving the Palestinian Arabs behind to fester in violence and misery. The world community, by senselessly throwing money and false hope, bears much of the responsibility for this turmoil. For the first time in history the refugee status of a people is allowed to go on endlessly without any diplomatic solution in sight! It is astonishing that the U.N. has an entire organization, UNRWA, with a budget of billions of dollars devoted to perpetuating the misery of these people.

A two-state solution has absolutely no chance of being viable. You will have two states in a constant state of war. The only solution is one state—the State of Israel, which is the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people.

Now President Trump comes along and says he wants to give these people a chance at life and that Gaza belongs to the people of the world! The time is now to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. I believe the president can make it happen.
