Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

Dear Shayna B.,

I am a huge fan! I think you are inspiring.

I have a problem. Recently, my friend and I were on a swing together. My friend pushed me off and said in a really mean tone, “You’re so clumsy.” The following day, she invited me to go bowling with her. I went, but she wasn’t there. I want to stay friends with this girl, so I told her how I felt, but nothing has changed.

I need your help!!!! I’m sure I’m not the only person in a difficult friendship. What should I do??!!!

From,

Resentful Rachel

Dear Resentful Rachel,

I know that you want to stay friends with this girl, but you’re not actually friends. Friends don’t treat each other like this. She is so mean to you and I don’t think she really wants to be friends with you. I think you should avoid contact with her completely and make new friends. When she invites you to go places with her, say, “No thank you.” If she tries to be mean, don’t let her succeed. She ghosted you with bowling; don’t let her ghost you again. People don’t hang out with ghosts!

I’ll leave you with this last bit of wise advice: What do you say to a mean ghost? “Get a life!”

There is only one ghost in this situation, so go enjoy yourself with nice people who appreciate you.

Best of luck,

Shayna B.
