Batsheva Glick was excited to celebrate her son’s bar mitzvah, but didn’t anticipate certain challenges that came along with the planning process. Included in the long list of things to do was outfitting the bar mitzvah boy for the big day, a requirement that proved far more difficult than she expected. Discouraged by the limited selection of boys dress clothes available locally, and assuming others were confronted with similar issues, she decided to open Biba Asher in her home in Teaneck.
Biba Asher carries fine boys’ clothing including suits, jackets, dress shirts and pants for boys sizes 7-20. Tuxedos are available by special order. The selection at Biba Asher includes a wide range of price points from assorted companies. “I have many affordable options,” said Glick, who knows that boys this age outgrow their clothing quickly so spending a lot of money is not always necessary. Additionally, all of her vendors are Jewish, so there is never a concern about shatnez.
Glick fully understands that the attention span of the average 13-year-old old boy does not allow for browsing time. She developed a system that helps her prepare for customers in advance of their arrival. Open by appointment only, Glick asks customers to provide key details about each child they are shopping for, including age, size, style and even where they go to school so that she can make sure not to sell the same suit to multiple bar mitzvah boys in the same grade. She takes those details and puts together options that would potentially work, eliminating the hassle of sifting through racks and sizes while the child has one foot out the door.
Client satisfaction is her top priority and she will do whatever she can to fulfill requests. Most of her vendors deliver within 48 hours, so if a color or size is out of stock, she will make sure to get it as soon as possible. “I consider myself a personal shopper,” said Glick. She added that she knows how stressful it can be to find this type of clothing for young boys and making it easier for other people is very gratifying for her.
Glick is flexible with appointments and sees customers in the evening and on weekends as well. To see the latest selection at Biba Asher, follow her on Instagram@batsheva_bibaasher. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call or text her at 646-207-3469.
