BPY First and Second Grades Take Learning on the Road

On Tuesday, May 10, Ben Porat Yosef first graders took a trip to Museum Village in Monroe, New York. There they visited a one-room schoolhouse, a phenomenon they have been studying. The children also toured other buildings from the same time period in American history, including a log cabin and a barn. They visited with a blacksmith and a candle maker and had the opportunity to make their own candles.

In their science classes, second graders have been studying animals and zoo exhibit design. On their trip to the Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange, they observed the animals they have been researching. There they met the zoo curator, who spoke with them about exhibit design, animal care and conservation efforts. Based on what they learned at the zoo, the second grade students intend to incorporate their newfound knowledge as they design their own zoo back at school.
