On motsei Shabbat, December 30, Ben Porat Yosef sixth grade girls and their mothers, who participate in the Matan Bat Mitzvah program, learned about Dona Gracia Nasi and her profound influence on the Jewish community during the Spanish Inquisition. The students and their mothers discussed the concept of “kol Yisrael areivim zeh la zeh,” and created artwork with hidden Jewish symbols to signify the concept of the Jewish people keeping their heritage alive even during difficult times when being a Jew was perilous.
