In front of a standing-room-only crowd, Bruriah Lightning Soccer advanced to its first championship in school history with a 4-2 victory against Central, at home. With the still-fresh taste of last year’s defeat in the first round of the playoffs at the hands of Central, the Lightning did not let up after senior Michal Hyman scored off a pass from senior Nikki Bick at the ten minute mark in the first quarter. Shortly after Central tied the game at 1 in the 2nd, senior Avigayil Wiener scored off a pass from Ilana Markowitz. Central scored again off a rebound with 2:14 remaining in the 2nd and the teams took a 2-2 tie into the half. Senior goalies Frayda Glucksman and Rivka Gutmann led Bruriah’s strong defense, and received support from fellow seniors Shira Fournier and Sarina Karfunkel, and juniors Dani Berlin and Ally Orgel. The score remained locked at 2-2 until 13:39 in the fourth quarter, when the Lightning’s Markowitz scored off a rebound. Hyman then put the game out of reach with the Lightning’s fourth goal at 11:11 in the 4th.
Bruriah salutes the seniors who played the last home game of their careers. With the victory, the Lightning advance to face SAR for the championship.
