The YM-YWHA of Union, Chaverim Camp Division, is pleased to announce the finishing touches for a fabulous summer for observant campers ages 12 through 15 for Summer 2016. “Tiyulim” is a specialized program that combines travel, camping, training to be a future counselor and chesed hours.
It is mostly a co-ed program for travel except to places such as water parks. Unique trips include tours, professional baseball games, zoos, museums, indoor and outdoor amusement parks, hiking trips, shows and even a chocolate cooking school! While on campus, the female campers participate in sports, swimming, learning, crafts, cooking, music, dance and yoga, while the boys focus on sports leagues. Chesed hours on Fridays bring the youngsters to the foodbank, assisted living facilities, daycare centers and nursing homes.
This is the only program in our area that combines all these things in a frum environment. Lunch is provided by Jerusalem Restaurant while “on campus,” while campers bring their own brown-bag lunch on travel days. There are several late nights and evening activities. Shlichim interact to bring Israeli ruach into the schedule.
The learning is headed by experienced rabbanim. The program is limited to 20 participants; as of press time there are still spaces available. Dates are June 28–August 19. The Y offers door-to-door pick-up in Springfield, Millburn, Short Hills, West Orange and Livingston. For more information, visit the webiste at www.unionycamps.org, or inquire at [email protected] or by calling 908-289-8112. The Camp is under the direction of Rabbi Yisroel Rich and is located at 501 Green Lane in Union.
