The CBY Adult Education Committee will host Nachliel Selevan on Monday, December 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the CBY social hall. His talk, titled “Into Darkness” will center on how Chanukah is the Jewish celebration of light amidst darkness: the darkness of the Seleucid Greek decrees, the darkness of the 10th of Tevet, which began the process of the destruction of the First Temple, and the darkness that came from translating the Torah into Greek. Parshat Vayechi opens with allusion to the darkness of the exile and slavery in Egypt. “Into Darkness” is a perspective on the darkness of the winter in the Jewish year, in pursuit of light at the end of the tunnel
