Chabad of Yonkers Welcomes Rosh Hashanah at City Hall

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano listens to the sound of the shofar blown by Chabad Lubavitch’s Mendy Hurwitz with New York State Sen. Shelly Mayer, Judge Karen Beltran, and other elected officials at Yonkers City Hall.

Chabad of Yonkers Rabbi Mendy Hurwitz welcomed all of Yonkers and shared wishes for a sweet, prosperous and healthy New Year at Yonkers City Hall as he blew the shofar with Mayor Mike Spano, Assemblyman Nader Sayegh, State Sen. Shelley Mayer and other elected officials in attendance. Apples dipped in honey and other traditional foods were served.

On the second day of Rosh Hashanah, Rabbi Hurwitz led his congregation’s members to Untermyer Park to blow the shofar as they symbolically cast their sins within sight of the waters of the mighty Hudson River for tashlich.

Everyone is welcome to celebrate the holidays following and to learn with the members and friends at the Greystone Jewish Center, 600 North Broadway in Yonkers. Services are free and open to the public; donations are greatly appreciated. Advance reservations are suggested. Call (914) 963-8888, visit www.jewishyonkers.com or email [email protected].
