Don’t Miss Out on the Northern New Jersey Great Challah Bake

What could possibly draw a crowd of 1000 women to gather together on October 22, 2015, at the Rockleigh Country Club? What cause could possibly unify 1000 women from nursery programs to adult assisted living? What topic could bring and unify women from diverse backgrounds to gather on a Thursday evening in October? Challah!! Really? What could possibly be so compelling to draw so many women together?

Allow me to digress, I am an old time resident of Teaneck and to the best of my recollection, the one event that pulls the community together is our well attended and exceptional Holocaust Memorial Program. It is remarkably meaningful and commemorates what we all share as Jews…loss.

So, back to the Northern New Jersey Great Big Challah Bake, what is it about this event that has drawn the support and backing of Breshit, Hadassah, IAC, JCC on the Palisades, Jewish Journeys, National Council of Jewish Women, Bergen County Division, NCSY, North Jersey Federation, Jewish Women’s Philanthropic Division, Rockleigh Jewish Home, Shabbat Project, Sharsheret, Tzofim, and WIZO?

Challah is the first mitzvah we kept upon entry into our land. Challah, the mainstay of our people, rises as our spirits and souls rise. Challah unifies us in prayer for our families and communities.

We live in a time of divisiveness and conflict. Historically, it is the Jewish woman that had clarity and direction. So, like our foremothers and all the wonderful Jewish mothers that followed we find strength in our Jewish home, our Jewish family. It is there in the home that we prepare the challah, the dough of blessing. And that is what is drawing 1000 women together. To be 1000 women strong, to create blessing, hope, clarity and strength.

Please join us on Thursday October 22. Please sign up now! We need to make sure that every person will have their bowl, flour, yeast, sugar and oil. We need to make sure that every precious woman is counted. We will celebrate with challah, prayer, song and dance. Don’t miss out!
