On December 30, Dr. Mishaela Rubin spoke with Ben Porat Yosef eighth graders about osteoporosis, a disease that causes bones to lose calcium and become more fragile. Dr. Rubin, who does clinical research at Columbia University, explained the causes of osteoporosis, how it is treated and what students can do now to protect their bones. Thanks to Dr. Rubin, the eighth graders were able to build on their study of the skeletal system and also gain a new perspective on their own health.
