(Courtesy of Fleetwood Synagogue) The children of Fleetwood Synagogue celebrated Purim with a unique twist—each was given dough, sauce and cheese to prep a personal pizza. Before baking, each dough round was pinched and shaped into triangles, making tasty “Pizza-taschen” that would rival any pizza shop’s calzones. Think of them as pizza slices that were pre-folded—much easier to eat!
While the pizzas were in the oven, children decorated mishloach manot boxes and filled them with candy, cookies and prizes. To determine who was giving to whom, kids drew names out of a hat—the “pur” in Purim, mirroring Haman’s procedure for determining the date of his plan. When the names were drawn, they exchanged mishloach manot.
Fleetwood Synagogue then held two Megillah readings and a festive breakfast featuring homemade hamantaschen, smoked fish and protein shakes—fuel for everyone’s Purim festivities!
