Friends, Junk Food and Dirt—What Could Be Better?!

Dear Shayna B.,

Summer is coming and all the exciting plans I made for the summer are finally almost here. My first time at sleepaway camp is only a few weeks away and I am … petrified. I was so happy when my parents and I decided I would go to sleepaway camp for the first time this summer, but now, not so much.

What should I do? How can I get happy again?

Signed,
Not Amped for Camp Carrie

Dear Not Amped for Camp Carrie,

I understand going to sleepaway camp for the very first time can be scary. I can guarantee you’ll have a great time! It’s like a regular day camp, you just sleep over and are still there on Shabbos… sort of. And almost everyone who goes normally has gone back the next year, so that’s a good sign. If you like camp, and you probably do, which is why you’re going, you’ll love not having to go home at the end of the day and fight with your siblings. No one will really make you shower. You get to eat lots of junk without your parents hassling you. I’m so convincing I think I’ve convinced myself. Maybe I’ll see you there this summer!

Best of luck,
Shayna B.
