The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Gotham Burger would like to recognize seven year old Alex Kalish as this week’s Sport-star of the Week. The rising 2nd grader at the Moriah School was the Most Improved Player in his division at CMEK camp in Tenafly a couple of weeks ago.
Alex has big shoes to fill as his older cousin, Noah Sosland, is one of the better 3rd graders in Bergen County. Alex worked extremely hard during the training boot camps and flourished in full-court game-play.
Chad Mekles of CMEK told The JLNJ, “Alex and his talented school-mates, who are a vaunted and feared group, will be a force to be reckoned with this coming year as they get ready for league play with Team CMEK.”
Alex, great job at CMEK, who would you say is your role model?
My role model is my dad because he teaches me how to be a better basketball player and how to be a good sport in victory and defeat.
Who is your favorite pro athlete?
LeBron James because he is the best basketball player in the NBA and he is a good team leader.
What is your pregame routine?
Before a game, I practice taking layups and warm up by running.

Going to a Miami Heat game when I was four years old. During halftime I won the the t-shirt toss and got a Lebron James t-shirt.
What is your funniest sports related memory?
One time I played with my cousin Noah Sosland (also a CMEK player) without any basketball rules (no out of bounds, no traveling etc).
What is your favorite sports memory?
Winning a championship game at a CMEK tournament is my favorite memory.
What do you like to do when not playing sports?
I like playing video games and watching movies with my sister, Gaby, and brother, Simon.
What is the best thing about being a sportstar?
The best thing about being a sportstar is being able to teach my younger friends how to play basketball.
