Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

One of the foremost and consistent philosophies from some of the more prolific thought leaders and entrepreneurs about the passion for their profession is the notion of “doing what you love.” Often attributed to Confucius, the quote, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life,” resonates loudly with so many, especially those in competitive and challenging industries.

In my career, there have been many occasions when a client or referral source or vendor that I work with recognizes my efforts and acknowledges it – which does bring great job satisfaction and pride, and I certainly do not take those experiences, regardless of how many, for granted. I am sure many professionals can relate to a pleasant experience, with excellent client feedback and support.

Then, there are the less frequent instances where one stumbles upon an idea or development, and it leads to so much gratification and fulfillment that well exceeds anything that could have been imagined. Our annual “I Love My House” kids art challenge is one of those illustrations (pun intended).

A few years ago, we came up with the idea of having kids draw pictures of their house, and write a sentence as to why they loved their home. The campaign was a huge success, but not because of the volume of participation – which well exceeded our imaginations. It was most meaningful to me, because of the submissions we received with genuine appreciation and heartfelt emotions about why children loved their homes.

Granted, there were plenty of entries about grandiose house appeal and top-of-line home amenities that were honest and candid; But the best came from those that spoke from the heart. The submissions from children who sentimentally highlighted family and holiday gatherings, childhood memories, and loving members of their household, were genuinely touching.

We were honored that the Jewish Link recognized the genuine responses to this “campaign” and partnered with us to make this an annual event where children can showcase their art – and most importantly, why they love their homes.

This year’s annual “I Love My House” contest has begun and is running through February 28th for children ages 12 and under. See our ad on page 56 of this week’s paper and in future ads for further participation. We are excited to see what this year’s participation will look like. It is with great pride that we can be involved in such a campaign that helps children realize some of the true blessings that they should appreciate and value. It is occasions like this, and the community involvement and participation, that help remind us about why we genuinely enjoy what we are doing. Good luck to all the participants!

A shout out and Happy Birthday to Elissa Baer, Amy Bruschansky, Sarah Frost, Jon Katz, and Lennie Shutyak.
