(Courtesy of Valley Chabad) Jewish high school students will have the unique opportunity this fall to earn two college credits while exploring the tenets of Judaism. The CTeen U course is being offered by Valley Chabad Teen Leadership Initiative in Woodcliff Lake, and is a collaboration of Yeshiva University and CTeen International. Credits will be accepted at many different colleges including highly selective schools, state colleges, liberal arts colleges, public flagships and more.
The course is available to 10th, 11th and 12th graders. Classes will (mostly) be held once a week on Sunday mornings 11 a.m. to noon. The course begins on Sunday, September 15, and will conclude before December break.
Some of the nearly 40 colleges accepting the credits include Birmingham University, Brandeis University, Harvard University, Northeastern University, Ohio State University, Penn State University, Rutgers University and more. For a complete list go to www.cteenu.com.
Valley Chabad Teen Leadership Initiative Director Rabbi Yosef Orenstein will be the instructor. A small class setting will make it possible for Rabbi Orenstein to get to know each student, as well as for the students to study and bond with each other. The teens will be encouraged to ask questions and make their knowledge personal.
Yeshiva University and CTeen have curated a course that will appeal to Jewish high school students from any background. No previous Judaic knowledge is required. The class is formatted to be relevant and interesting and will cover ideas such as how we ascertain that the Torah is true, the Jewish view on happiness and what it means to believe in God, and will also include a brief summary of the following laws: kashrut, holidays, Shabbat, prayers and blessings.
The cost for the class is $999, with an early-bird rate of $749 if registration is completed by September 1. In order to take advantage of the early-bird discount, registrants must contact Valley Chabad for a special code. To register visit www.cteenu.com and choose Woodcliff Lake for your location.
