Artist Josh Teplow is showcasing his latest work at the Passaic County Arts Center in an exhibition titled “Living Beyond the Fire,” running through March 16. The collection, created after the October 7 attacks in Israel, reflects the pain, anxiety and resilience of the Jewish people in the wake of the deadliest massacre since the Holocaust.
Teplow’s paintings incorporate Jewish symbolism and expressions of collective anguish while also pointing toward healing and renewal. His work frequently uses plant forms as a metaphor for life’s challenges and growth. In his artist statement, Teplow describes plants as adaptive organisms that overcome adversity—an idea that parallels his own artistic and personal journey.

Through expressive, gestural brushstrokes, Teplow invites viewers to reflect on the complexities of life, trauma and the enduring human spirit.
Josh Teplow lives in New Jersey. He received his master of arts from NYU and has written art reviews for both Arts magazine and C magazine. He curated the show “Earth, Air, Fire, Water: Nature Statements” at the Arsenal Gallery in Central Park, NYC.
