K-Bet at Yeshivat Noam: A Day in the Life of Pilgrims!

Dressed in handmade hats and bonnets, the children of Kindergarten Bet are experiencing Pilgrim life. The students started the day outdoors where they hunted and gathered turkeys and vegetables for making homemade food and soup. The students also collected sticks to be used as firewood and to be used to make brooms.

Indoors, without electricity, the students husked corn and churned butter like the Pilgrims did. Using the husks of the corn and the sticks gathered earlier, the children created and used brooms to sweep their “cabins”.

The “cabin” is filled with the delicious smell of vegetable soup and Johnney Cakes, which is the type of cornbread baked by Pilgrims. After completing their chores and lessons, the Pilgrim children played games, such as marbles and jacks to experience toys from that time period.

The smiles and excitement could be seen on their faces as the children got to step out of Paramus in 2014 and into Plymouth Rock in 1620.
