Ice cream is supposed to be frozen. Pipes are not. Open only a few months, Lucky Roll Ice Cream, located at 2 Palisade Avenue in Englewood, had to close for repairs due to a burst water pipe. But that’s history. Lucky Roll is once again making frozen ice cream treats, rolled by hand with a variety of crunchy cereal fillings. Owners David Ng and Debbie He said the store has been completely renovated and they’ve even added a new cereal flavor to the list.
Rolled ice cream is a popular street food in Thailand, reaching new fans in this country. The rolls begin with a cream-based mix and a few proprietary ingredients. The mixture is spread in a circle on a special flat freezing device. When frozen, selected toppings are mixed in and the thin layers of ice cream are rolled up, gathered into a cup and served. David and Debbie have consulted extensively with Rabbi Aaron Mehlman to have their ice cream rolls certified kosher. The store is open daily, except on Mondays during the winter. Lucky Roll will also be taking their show on the road. You can have your next milchig event include dessert from Lucky Roll Ice Cream.
