Ma’ayanot Art Students Explore Technique And Expression

The Ma’ayanot 10th Grade Art Elective students have been exploring foundational and expressive art techniques through their skill-building course, which is designed to guide them through the exploration of a wide range of materials and methods, encouraging both technical proficiency and creative growth. A recent focus of the class has been a charcoal drapery study, a project that challenges students to bring depth and realism to their work. Using the Tallit as their subject, students learn to model organic forms by manipulating light and dark values, creating the illusion of three-dimensionality on a two-dimensional surface. During the Art class, the students have been encouraged to use the characteristics of charcoal to infuse their work with personal energy and emotion, making each piece a unique reflection of their individual artistic voice. These studies help deepen their appreciation for the expressive potential of visual art.

As the semester progresses, the students will continue to build confidence, refine their skills, and discover new ways to connect with the world through art.
