Basketball has always been a popular sport at Ma’ayanot in Teaneck. Basketball is one of Ma’ayanot’s many sports teams and has both a Junior Varsity and a Varsity team. The Junior Varsity team is coached by Coach Keni Ashby, as well as an alumnus and former Ma’ayanot basketball player Atara Polinsky. Last year, they coached the team to win four games and make it to the first round of the playoffs. Although it is only the very beginning, the girls on the team, as well as the coaches, hope to have a great season ahead.
The Junior Varsity team consists of 16 players; eight sophomores (Adina Rosenberg, Shana Adler, Shana Gershbaum, Chaya Robinson, Elisheva Katz, Racheli Zirman, Gabi Lerner and Nechama Stern) and eight freshmen (Racheli Zomberg, Michal Horn, Alissa Felder, Adina Falk, Miriyam Goldman, Tamar Segal, Jessica Orski and Amanda Solomon). The players are excited to begin to work together as a team, getting plays and drills down pat. The team has only had a few practices so far, but they hope to return to the court in October for their first game stronger than ever.
