The students of Moriah enjoyed Rosh Hashanah simanim—Sephardic style. In preparation for the holiday, the children were treated to leek latkes, dates, pomegranates, black eyed peas, a squash dish, scallion pancakes and a candy fish. This was in addition to the more familiar apples and honey, and in this case sugar, too. They learned the symbolism of each and were intrigued by the customs of the Sephardic community. May it be a sweet, happy and healthy new year!
