MTA Chess Team Wins a Share of the Yeshiva League Championship

Last Tuesday, the MTA Lions chess team ventured to The Ramaz School to take part in the semi-finals and championship rounds of the yeshiva league chess competition. The Lions quickly and easily won each of their seven semi-final games and advanced to the championship. In a four way championship round between MTA, TABC, Ramaz and DRS, each team split up to take on each other’s school, so that some MTA students were playing every other attending school and vice versa. At the end of the round, MTA, Ramaz and TABC each finished with a 4-3 record, while DRS ended with a 2-5 record. MTA’s strong record earned them an undefeated record on the year. This three-way tie, as per league rules, resulted in all three teams being declared champions. This is the first MTA chess championship win, and the team is extremely thankful to captains Yitzy Richter and Ben Tzion Zuckier, and faculty advisor Rabbi Mendelson, for their great leadership this year and hope to return next season ready to check and mate.
