Ms. Rubin’s AP Biology class frequently gets their hands dirty to gain a practical understanding of their course work, but this time, their experimentation was spiritual as well. After learning about the process of fermentation in yeast, the class made challah. Each group kneaded five lbs of flour and did hafrashas challah with a bracha for the zechus of the safety of our chayalim in Eretz Yisroel and the safe return of the hostages. The students read the names of all of the hostages as well as of many chayalim and recited perakim of Tehillim and the misheberach for Tzahal, proving that even science class can be elevated into a mitzvah.
