Naaleh Enlightenment Salon Showcases Costumes And Conversation

The Naaleh AP European History Enlightenment Salon returned last week for its third year of showcasing the ideas and personalities of the 18th-century Enlightenment. This year’s attendees, an eclectic group ranging from Thomas Hobbes to Jonathan Swift, Voltaire to Moses Mendelssohn and Mary Wollstonecraft to Jean d’Alembert, discussed various hot-button issues of the Enlightenment. Fiery debate erupted over the role of government and its relationship to human rights, and discussions about education, reason and the arts drew impassioned responses from participants. The AP Euro students left the salon with croissants, coffee and new insight into the development of our modern world.
