Nachum Segal announced Tuesday that after 33 years of hosting Jewish Moments in the Morning (“JM in the AM”) on WFMU radio, he will broadcast the program exclusively on NSN. The move is expected to occur on December 1, 2016.
Segal, the “JM in the AM” and NSN teams and WFMU management have emphasized that the agreement is completely amicable and that the radio station will assist in the transition as much as possible.
“We will emphasize to our listeners in the New York and New Jersey area what our global listeners already know: How easy it is to listen to a clear and static-free broadcast,” Segal said.
Segal explained that between the NSN app on smartphones and iPads, web-radios, computer desktops, the listener call in-line and other options, “JM in the AM” will continue to flourish as “the radio program of record of the Jewish world.”
The move “will give us the opportunity to provide a longer, stronger, more exciting program with greater global reach every morning and 24 hours a day,” said Segal.
WFMU, licensed as a non-profit radio station, adheres to the guidelines of charitable and non-commercial radio. With the move of “JM in the AM” exclusively to NSN, the program, its host, its content and its reach will be allowed greater creative flexibility and sponsorship opportunities.
First arriving at WFMU in 1983 as a junior from Yeshiva College, Segal has built a daily broadcast program that includes music, community information and in-depth interviews. Dubbed as “the voice of the Jewish people,” his on-air presence and participation in major community events has lended professionalism and importance to many community functions.
Ken Freedman, general manager at WFMU since 1983, added that “Nachum has been a priceless asset to WFMU. He has grown his brand and network to an incredible degree. We will do everything we can in the next couple of months to help facilitate his growth and success.”
WFMU has indicated that they will not be featuring Jewish programming in the morning time slot going forward.
