The recent fourth OU Job Fair in Israel at the Jerusalem Gardens Hotel attracted 54 employers and nearly 1,000 job seekers. Eighteen people were offered jobs on the spot while 66 job candidates were offered second interviews. |
“The OU Job Board is committed to making sure people who make aliyah have opportunities that will allow them to stay in Israel,” said Michael Rosner, Executive Director of the OU Job Board, based in New York. “The OU Job Board gives both olim and native Israelis the tools to enable them to find meaningful employment.”
The Job Fair was for native speakers of English who have lived in Israel for a number of years as well as those who have just arrived. “We are pushing English-speaking jobs so we assume that most participants are olim,” said Mr. Rosner. According to OU Job Board estimates, only about one-third of the participants were native-born Israelis. The majority of participants—both employers and job seekers—came from outside Jerusalem and live within an hour’s commute of the capital, said Rosner.
Employers for this year’s job fair included publishers, accountants, cellular phone companies, investment firms, jewelry stores, real estate firms, as well as a plethora of consulting firms and outsourcing companies. Several volunteer organizations assisting olim find work were also present at the fair, including Nefesh B’Nefesh, the Jerusalem municipality, Americans and Canadians in Israel (AACI) and the South African Zionist Federation.
