What Is the Deal With All These Seinfeld Haggadot?

… something better, please let me know.
So don’t let this Great Big Why worry you too much. Serenity Now! The title of this article is not an existential question. Plop all these real, spectacular haggadot on your seder table, and have yourself a good time.
Besides, we Three Haggadahteers are in this just for the jokes.
And if you don’t believe that, well, then you’re just a rabid anti-dentite.

Martin is the author of The Emoji Haggadah, The Festivus Haggadah and The Coronavirus Haggadah. On the haggadah scoreboard, it’s Bodek 3, Cowen 3, Reinstein 1.

Israel Recognition: 164 Countries Down, 29 to Go

… have done so, at a clip of 1.35 countries per year.
I, of course, should not be considered any kind of marker of progress for Israel’s peace initiatives, but if matters hold to that pace (and I remain in good health), then country No. 193 should come on line sometime around my retirement in 2041.
May that happen, and may it happen sooner, but for more immediate interests, may I, very soon, write an article subtitled, “165 Down, 28 to Go.”
Have a wonderful Jewish New Year.

Martin is the author of eight books, including The Emoji Haggadah.

And that is why, in the age of “social distancing,” I was sharing the experience of eating a doughnut in New York City with Martin Bodek, while he was eating one in New Jersey, in front of my house.

Passover 2019: With a Little Help From My Friends

Passaic is a special community, such that three of my friends have come out with their own versions of the Pesach Haggadah this year. So with a little help from my friends and their Haggadahs, I’ll be having a more interesting Pesach in 2019.
If there was an award for most unique Haggadah, that would certainly go to “The Emoji Haggadah” by Martin Bodek (Ktav). An emoji is a graphic symbol that represents an idea or concept. From smiley faces to coats, animal and more, there are thousands of emojis in use.
In his Haggadah, Bodek uses emojis to …

First-Ever Emoji Haggadah Heralds a Symbolic Pesach

… Shel Pesach” and emojis of a hand holding a pen, a martini, a bow and the symbols for all four suits in the standard deck of 52 playing cards portraying the words “written by Martin Bodek.”
Bodek found certain concepts and words relatively easy to translate into emoji. Pouring the second cup of wine before reciting Ma Nishtana appears as emojis of a faucet with a cup, a medal representing the number two and a glass of wine. Borrowing a page from Sefaria, the online Jewish library, Bodek used Sesame Street’s Count Von Count to depict Sefiras Haomer, but

My Stories

Part 43 (written 2014)
(Continued from previous week)
Angelika Rieber of the Gesellschaft, who does not live too far away from Schmitten, had arranged with a Herr Martin Hoffmann, a Pfarrer (Protestant Minister) to pick us up at the hotel and take us to our destination as well as to act as our guide there. Herr Hoffmann had ministered to the population of Schmitten as well as that of neighboring villages and had taken upon himself the task of researching and preserving the histories of those Jewish communities. He has established a personal archive on the subject, and much of …

Gotham Burger/Jewish Link Father’s Day Sportstars of the Week

This week, in honor of Father’s Day, the Jewish Link of New Jersey and Gotham Burger would like to recognize four local dads as Sportstars of the week: Martin (Mordechi) Bodek, Glenn Pfeiffer, Yossie Rubin and David Tyler. In keeping with the Father’s Day theme, we asked their greatest trophies (children) a few questions about their Sportstar dads.
Martin (Mordechi) Bodek started running when he was 21, and has piled up some impressive numbers to this point: 204 races, including 23 marathons, 30 half marathons, and four ultras. Running 16 New York City Marathons (including 14 straight—every …
