(Courtesy of JFS MetroWest) Rachel Coalition helps hundreds of victims of domestic violence each year with its professionals providing guidance and support through counseling and legal services. The organization improves the lives of those most affected by abuse — the victims, their children and their families. This month, Rachel Coalition organized several events to raise awareness of the issue and to assist victims.
Rachel Coalition hosted its annual community education event earlier this month to raise awareness about domestic violence. This year the coalition presented a documentary, “This Is Where I Learned Not to Sleep,” followed by a panel discussion with survivor and retired police officer, Lt. Mark Wynn and filmmaker Kirsten Kelly, along with Marianne McCrone and Tara Halpern from JFS/Rachel Coalition. This event was not just an opportunity to learn, but also a call to action as the community collectively strives to create a healthier and stronger community for domestic violence victims and their families.
Rachel Coalition also held a virtual financial empowerment workshop for victims of abuse. The goal was to educate and empower survivors to understand financial abuse and take control of their finances. The seminar also taught basic money management.
The fall training for court advocate volunteers also began this month. Volunteers offer crisis counseling and information regarding safety and resources to victims of domestic violence. This incredible group of volunteers assists hundreds of victims annually. The training is offered again in spring 2025. Individuals interested in more information about this volunteer opportunity are encouraged to email Sherri Goldman at [email protected].
