Rosh Chodesh Shevat Is Celebrated in Moriah Early Childhood

The Early Childhood at Moriah learned about the upcoming holiday of Tu B’Shvat, the new year of the trees. In the United States it will still be winter, but in Israel it will be the beginning of the spring season. Morah Divsha read “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein, after which the students planted their own grass. They filled a plastic cup with three spoons of soil, added two pinches of grass seeds and topped that off with another two spoons of soil. The children decorated popsicle stick trees to stick inside the cup, and watered the new plants. They cannot wait to see them start to grow. The Rosh Chodesh celebration culminated with decorating tree-shaped cookies with green icing and colored sprinkles.
