(Courtesy of RYNJ Sports) On Monday March 10, the RYNJ 7 & 8G Jaguars played Magen David Yeshiva for the Championship game in the Metropolitan Jewish Day School Basketball League (MJDSBL). Both teams showed great heart and played competitively in an exciting and dynamic game. RYNJ and MDY alternated taking the lead for the first three quarters, and the game was tied 25-25 at the halftime mark, thanks to a buzzer beater shot by Captain Rebecca Summers. At the end of the third quarter, RYNJ was down by one basket, 33-35. The fourth quarter was a turning point for RYNJ, as they outscored MDY 21-2, resulting in a final score of 54-37. RYNJ showed incredible defense and teamwork, working in sync to both defend and score against this challenging and determined opponent. Each player on the team was a valuable part of the group, and contributed to an undefeated season. Captain Aliza Neiss, starting point guard, did a great job setting her team up for success and ended the game with a season high of 18 points, and many assists to her fellow teammates. Captain Perri Lamm persevered through an injury and led the team in defensive rebounding and strong offense, adding 5 crucial points to RYNJ’s score. Navah Moskowitz, a starter from seventh grade, was a powerhouse under the hoop, working together with Meira Bleicher to control down low. Together they both dominated the fourth quarter, Moskowitz with 6 points and Bleicher with 7. Yael Rochwarger, Yael Sava, Nava Zomberg, Leora Gottlieb, Emmy Eizikowitz, Libby Kirschenbaum, Bella Schmutter and Miki Kahn were a critical part of the team as well. The entire group showed great teamwork on and off the court, celebrating each other’s accomplishments and growth, and supporting each other. In addition, managers Meital Yablok and Chaya Schechter were a vital part of the team, attending both home and away games with enthusiasm and professionalism. Their dedication and help throughout the season was so appreciated! Thank you to Coach Shaina Gross, for her incredible coaching and invaluable guidance. With an undefeated 12-0 season, these girls set the bar high for next year’s team. RYNJ is extremely proud of all they have accomplished this season!
