(Courtesy of RWJ Barnabas Health) Saint Barnabas Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, is New Jersey’s only hospital to receive a 13th consecutive ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group, an independent nonprofit Hospital Watchdog organization. Saint Barnabas Medical Center is one of only 49 hospitals in the United States to earn straight A’s since the inception of the program in 2012.
“As we continue on our journey of becoming a High Reliability Organization, earning the Leapfrog recognition for 13 consecutive cycles is a tremendous accomplishment that reflects hard-wired processes and dedication from every team member at Saint Barnabas Medical Center,” said Stephen P. Zieniewicz, FACHE, president and CEO, Saint Barnabas Medical Center. “Safety is a core value and our #1 priority. Receiving an A grade reflects our commitment to providing the safest quality care to our patients and their families,” he continued.
“Only a very select group of hospitals nationally continue to earn an A Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade year after year. It shows an unbroken commitment to protecting patients from preventable errors and accidents that harm and even kill too many people in our country every day. Thanks to Saint Barnabas Medical Center for always putting your patients first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.
The Safety Grade assigns letter grades of A, B, C, D and F to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms. Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to approximately 2,500 US hospitals twice per year. It is peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
