This past week, Rabbi Zev Reichman, from Yeshiva University and East Hill Synagogue of Englewood, addressed a group of ninth graders on contemporary topics related to the masechta Bava Kama. Presently, Bava Kama is part of the ninth grade gemara curriculum. Rabbi Reichman led an interactive learning session peppered with questions based on halachic topics the students had previously covered in their gemara classes. Questions included: What happens if a taxi passenger gets out of the car and knocks the driver’s glasses to the pavement, and the driver subsequently drives over them? Does the passenger have to pay? Can a newspaper vender prohibit customers from reading newspapers at the stand that he knows he will not sell? If I am farming bees to grow my own honey, am I responsible for the medical bills of a person who passes by my house and gets stung by a bee from a beehive that is on my front lawn? Rabbi Reichman generously presented each student with a copy of his new sefer on Bava Kama called “Daf Delights.” Thank you Rabbi Reichman for joining students at SAR HS!
