(Courtesy of Kaplen JCC on the Palisades) Looking to break into the competitive and confusing world of professional theater, film, TV or modeling? Now’s your chance to be discovered! The School of Dramatic Arts at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades is presenting “Open Call,” an open talent search, where actors, singers, improv artists and models—ages 3½ to adult—will have a rare opportunity to audition for top theatrical agents and managers from New York City and New Jersey. These agents will then make constructive suggestions and provide potential future auditions with New York and New Jersey talent agents, casting directors and managers who specialize in theater, film, TV, modeling, print work and voice-overs for video and internet games.
A preliminary open audition with industry professionals and agency scouts will be held on Sunday, October 7, starting at 2 p.m. Children ages 3½ to 6 years of age prepare a short song, poem, joke or story that shows personality; ages 7 and up prepare a short monologue (30 seconds or less) or sing 16 bars of a song, bringing a CD or iPod for accompaniment.
Those who qualify will be invited to sign up for the “Final Call” on Sunday, November 4.
Those who are not yet ready for professional work will be evaluated and advised on ways to develop their individual strengths for future, private auditions in the spring. This will include a pre-professional training program that centers on workshops, lessons and coaching under the guidance of the JCC School of Dramatic Arts professional staff including Deb Roberts, Jenna Mate and Katherine Keyes or an instructor of your choice. Opportunities to audition and receive progress assessments will be offered every six months.
Top-level agents who will judge at the November 4 Final Call include Abrams Artists, Wilhelmina, Generation TV, Goldstar and others. People who have auditioned at previous “Open Calls” at the JCC are currently appearing on Broadway, in films, commercials, voice-overs, on network TV and Nickelodeon.

Cost is $20 JCC members, $25 public in advance; and $25 JCC members, $30 public at the door, if spots are available. Agent auditions are $10 JCC members, $15 public (for those who qualify).
