Senator-Elect Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) Hosted in Englewood

On November 20, Kevin and Lori Lemmer welcomed Senator-Elect Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) to their home in Englewood for a two-hour NORPAC dinner event.

Capito, who is completing her seventh term as a Representative for West Virginia’s second district, will replace Democrat Senator Jay Rockefeller, who is retiring after serving 30 years as an elected official. The victory marks the first time in over 50 years that West Virginia has elected a Republican US Senator. Capito serves on the House Financial Services Committee and House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

During the two-hour greet and dinner event, Capito met and conversed with the approximately two-dozen NORPAC members and guests before sharing her perspective on current issues that affect Israel and the United States.

Capito has a longstanding record of supporting Israel during her years in the House of Representatives. In the 110th and 111th Congresses, she supported House Resolution 260, recognizing the 62nd anniversary of the independence of the State of Israel, and reaffirming unequivocal support for the alliance and friendship between the United States and Israel. She also supported House Resolution 951, condemning Palestinian rocket attacks on Israeli civilians by Hamas and other terrorist organizations. More recently, Capito supported a bill for sanctions against Hezbollah and increasing funding for the Iron Dome missile defense system.

Capito said that she supports moving forward with increased sanctions against Iran if a deal is not met before the November 24 deadline. “The deal needs transparency through a well-defined line,” said Capito. “Total dismantlement is what we’re looking for.”

Shelley Moore Capito joins, so far, seven other GOP newcomers in the US Senate starting next year. NORPAC continues to host local events for pro-Israel candidates, being joined in December by Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR) and Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL).
