I wish to comment on Michael Feldstein’s thoughtful article, “Seven Things to Change at Jewish Weddings” (August 31, 2023). He omitted one very important issue that many Modern Orthodox rabbis have spoken about.
With the difficulty of so many young singles not finding opportunities for socializing with the opposite sex and possibly meeting a partner to marry, there is no halachic reason that single young males and females must be separated either at separate tables, or even worse, being separated by a mechitza.
It is difficult enough to find a proper partner to marry. Socializing allows young people to learn different personality types and increase emotional and social maturity, so that a mature choice for marriage may lead to a happy marriage.
