This Shabbat, September 24, the Gela Feldman chapter of Emunah will honor 39 mothers and their children who have volunteered their time in Emunah children’s homes in Israel.
The children living in these homes cannot live with their parents. They do not attend school or camp, so it is difficult to keep the children occupied and happy. These volunteers organize activities for the children. They are their friends and mentors. They also give the children the opportunity to learn English. Many of the volunteers describe their experiences as life changing.
A few years ago, the American volunteer program in Bet Elazraki, Netanya, started with just a few volunteers. It has blossomed into a large and popular program with 45 participants. Two years ago, Neve Michael in Pardes Channa opened a program. Last year, Achuzat Sarah in Bnai Brak began a program of their own. Those who have volunteered at these three homes will be honored at the Shabbat Tea, to be held at 4pm at the home of Debbie and Baruki Cohen.
