Congregation Shomrei Torah of Fair Lawn has built a mishloach manot theme around standing in solidarity with Israel. “We have made our mishloach manot entirely with Israeli products,” explained co-chairs Barbara Irwin and Debbie Friedman. “We hope this encourages people to buy Israeli items in general, in addition to the fact that our mishloach manot will help support the State of Israel.” Shomrei Torah has joined with many other shuls to reverse the impact of BDS, by using the acronym used by anti-Israel groups to indicate support of Israel. (B—Buy Israeli products, D—Distribute on Purim, S—Support the State of Israel.)
“It’s unbelievable how supportive everyone has been with this idea,” Irwin exclaimed appreciatively. “El Al Airlines donated branded keychains and passport holders, and local vendors Food Showcase and B & B Liquors went out of their way to provide us with great items and prices for our mishloach manot.” Irwin and all of Shomrei Torah encourage everyone to take advantage of this fun and meaningful way to support Israel.
