When Avigayil Geller decided to have her daughter’s ears pierced she did some crowdsourcing research to find out where others go, but the suggestions she found just did not appeal to her. Avigayil, a Fair Lawn native who works as a school and camp nurse, simply did not feel comfortable bringing her baby to a stand at the mall or a tattoo parlor, as so many suggested on social media. She knew there had to be a different option.
One day, a friend from out of town came with her baby to visit, and Avigayil asked her where she took her daughter to get her ears pierced. Little did Avigayil know how that visit would not only turn out to be the perfect solution, but it would also become an incredible opportunity to help others in her community. Avigayil’s friend told her how the school nurse back home also offered ear piercing out of her own home and put the two women in touch. And with that, Studs N’ Roses was born.
“Many people are sensitive to earrings and other jewelry, but it’s actually the nickel in those products that causes the sensitivity,” she explained. Avigayil uses the Blomdahl Medical Ear Piercing System and Supplies, a company that only supplies their products to nurses and doctors. “Although many people will tell you that 14-karat gold is hypoallergenic, traces of nickel are usually still found in 14-karat gold.” All the supplies and equipment that Avigayil uses are completely nickel-free and hypoallergenic.
Avigayil runs Studs N’ Roses out of her home in Fair Lawn, but also offers concierge home visits. Using a medical piercing device and hypoallergenic materials that are either medical-grade titanium or medical-grade plastic, Avigayil first marks the lobes and then pierces the ears in a seamless process.
Studs N’ Roses provides ear piercing for children age 3 and older, as well as for babies once they’ve had their first round of vaccinations, typically around 2-3 months old, and up until they turn 1. There is a greater chance that children between the ages of 1 and 3 may touch their ears, increasing the risk of infection, so she recommends waiting until the child is 3 years old.
Avigayil takes the time to explain the procedure and provide detailed aftercare instructions before piercing her clients’ ears. However, she wants parents to feel comfortable reaching out to her with any questions at any time. “When I had questions about the ear-piercing process, I felt like there was no one I could ask,” she said. It’s common for parents to have many questions and need someone they trust to provide clear answers. For example, it can be difficult to determine whether an ear looks irritated or what to do if the earring or backing falls out. Avigayil encourages her clients to call or text her with any follow-up questions, assuring them that she will respond as soon as possible. “My goal is to provide a personalized experience and make sure everyone knows they can reach out to me with any concerns.”
Studs N’ Roses offers flexible hours, and Avigayil is happy to accommodate clients’ schedules. She encourages clients who may feel nervous before the appointment to contact her. “Infection is a common risk but can be easily prevented with proper care. By following the recommended aftercare instructions, you can ensure a smooth healing process, with gorgeous new earrings.”
