The TABC Storm came into this year’s 2014 Maimonides Invitational Tournament looking to continue on its winning ways. After a treacherous trip up north to Brookline on Thursday, the Storm kicked off the tournament with a decisive victory over the Kushner Cobras, 55 – 28.
TABC continued to roll early Friday morning, defeating the host Maimonides M-Cats, 60 – 43.
However, despite its best effort, in the second game of a back-to-back, the Storm was beaten by Kushner, 52 – 47.
After a tour of Fenway Park on Friday afternoon, and an uplifting Shabbat program, the Storm returned to the court on Motzei Shabbat in resolute fashion, sealing its place in the championship game by defeating the RMBA Houston Stars, 52 – 30.
In the championship game, the Storm prepared for a tough matchup versus the Kushner team, which had given the Storm its only loss of the tournament. After a hard fought first three quarters, the Storm was able to pull away in the fourth quarter and win the championship, defeating the Cobras, 59 – 48.
2The team was led throughout the weekend by Tournament MVP Yehoshua Zirman, as well as Moshe Brum (First Team All-Tournament) and Alex Hirt (Second Team All-Tournament). Additionally, TABC’s very own Doni Kilimneck was crowned the tournament’s 3-Point Shootout Champion after an impressive display during the Skills Competition.
